Deploying Google Earth 4.3 – Finding the MSI

I was busy with work for all these days, lots of applications to repackage and deploy. Hell lot of support calls related to the repackaged versions of Adobe Flash Player and Shortwave Player!! Now it’s the time fire up my keyboard again. :)Google Earth Logo

The post Repackaging Google Earth 4.1.7087 was quite popular and it seems lots of readers are having difficulties in finding the Google Earth MSI for deployment. So the next installment of the Google Earth series seems inevitable.

Downloading the Setup

Method 1

It seems Google changed the download procedure of Google Earth. Now they got an Updater which will download and install the program. In order to download the setup.exe you may try the following method.

1. Click the download button in the a href=””>Google Earth download page.

2. From the next page choose Other from the location selector and click Agree and Download.

3. This will lead you to the download page.

Method 2

At the moment this seems working. Browse to the the following page:
Click Agree and Download to proceed.

OR Better to the direct download page

And finally direct link to the current release:

Grabbing the MSI

1. Run the downloaded setup and wait till the install window pops up.

2. Browse to your profile temp folder. ( Type in %Temp% in the Run box and press enter.)

3. Look for a folder with the name starts with 7ZipSfx. It will be 7ZipSfx.000 if you are running the setup for the first time. For each run it changes the names like 7ZipSfx.001, 7ZipSfx.002 etc.

4. Take a backup of this folder. Here you can find the msi along with the uncompressed files.Create an mst and enjoy. :)

Brilliant… The big question is why can’t Google just give us the MSI by itself?

Hmmm. It appears this MSI does something stupid. Trying to silent install it just makes msiexec sit there doing nothing.

Why does Google have to make things so hard?

Oops… Looks like I lied. I did “/q” instead of “/qb” and it seems to have worked.
