This is probably a stupid question, but why should I change now?
I am using Server 2008 with Hyper-V and have no problem creating and using VMs. I would like to export my VMs to another location, but I can't find a way to do so. I use Server Manager/Hyper-V Manager and there is a Import item in the Action Pane, but no Export. Can someone tell me where to look for the Export facility. Highlight a VM in the Virtual Machines section that is shut down, and then
in the actions pane you'll see an export option in the lower half of the pane. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "Tom Mason" <masonth@comcast.net> wrote in message news 68F61CB-71F4-4C8B-B360-9EDDECE3B8C2@microsoft.com...> This is probably a stupid question, but why should I change now? > > I am using Server 2008 with Hyper-V and have no problem creating and using > VMs. I would like to export my VMs to another location, but I can't find a > way to do so. Charlie,
Thanks. Since my VMs are always running I never saw that. Tom,
You can also simply move the VHD and recreate the handful of parameters for the VM configuration as well. Sometimes this can be faster / more straight-forward than exporting/importing (unless you have snapshots, etc.). Hope this helps, --Ryan -- Ryan Sokolowski MVP - Clustering MCT, MCITP x3, MCTS x7, MCSE x2, CCNA, CCDA, BCFP "Tom Mason" <masonth@comcast.net> wrote in message news:94525FC0-AE81-4A75-9662-BE55F12E5BC4@microsoft.com... > Charlie, > > Thanks. Ryan,
Thanks for the info. I had already discovered the "create a new VM with the old VHD" trick. Charlie told me about shutting down the VM before exporting it. And I agree that the number of snapshots is probably the governing condition.
