Converter

Hi everyone,

In the old company that I was we work with VMware, now I'm working with
Virtual server 2005 R2 and Hyper-V. With VMware I had a tool "vmware
converter" that allows me to convert physical or virtual machines into
virtual machanes.

Does Microsoft has anything like this for Virtual server or Hyper-V?

Well i know that it comes with System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007
(SCVMM 2007) its called P2V.

I have earlier used Ghost Solution Suite to take image of Physical and then
write it to the virtul machine using the network (Used Ghost Multicat Server)
and then booting the Virtual Machine and then strting ghost in DOS mode.
Ghost creates an bootable CD which you can use to boot and launch the Ghost
console.

Except one VM it worked quite fine.
Just convert virtual hard drive images from VMWare's VMDK format into the
Microsoft's VHD format.
Create a Hyper-V VM using the converted VHD. Done

If you go from VMWare to VPC/Virtual server you might want to
uninstall the VMWare tools before making the conversion of the disks.
Makes it easier on you to start it up inside VPC/VS.

Thank you all for the responses.

We don't have SCVMM 2007. Is SCVMM 2007 able to manage Hyper-V? I know that
is able to manage Virtual Server, but I thought that for Hyper-V we would
need SCVMM 2008?

The VMDK(VMWare) to VHD Converter sounds the only option for now. I'll try
it and try not to forget to uninstall vmware tools.
