Select a non-default collection, one you've made "My Collection", and right
click it. Under New (I think it's under New, or just look around til you find...) Link Collection. Select the default collection you want to create a link to. Now you have two "Instances" of the same collection; one at the root, and one under My Collection. Then just select the root-level collection, right-click and go through the delete wizard--you'll see it prompts you about deleting that instance. (Leaving the other, now as a sub-collection).
